RELIGION IN MODERN SOCIETY
"My God is Better Than Yours...No
My God is Better Than Yours"
In my opinion, all
peaceful prophets including Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Buda, Gandhi, MLK, RFK
and Dalai Lama advocated for freedom
and a movement away from violence, persecution, slavery, corruption,
terrorism
and barbarism. These prophets confronted evil empires and
persecution in their time, sometimes with deathly fates.
Speaking out for freedom and non-violence and helping humanity during
evil times is rare and noble. I believe religion has helped humanity
develop in many positive ways including giving structure and protection
during the age of barbarians. Many non-extremist religious groups are tolerent and
accepting of other peaceful people with different beliefs and still help
humanity greatly. I also believe spirituality is a very personal
feeling like a fingerprint for each person, and should remain a
private decision not forced on others. I embrace learning
about all peaceful cultures and religions with mutual respect and
cultural interest. I feel this is the main message of these
amazing prophets and I try to live my life by these messages
everyday. My issue with some modern day religions is
time and time again people misuse the name of their God for personal
gain, persecution or extremism without religious leaders speaking
out strongly and constantly against this behavior.
I'm also afraid of religions that say "my God is better
than your God". I
prefer to remember and study the key messages of all popular
ancient and modern day prophets and philosophers. This is my personal religion of
love, peace, respect and tolerance of others and nature. I do
not want to convert you, only learn about you and accept you as a
positive non-violent person with different ideas and thoughts.
If we all believed the same thing, we would live in a very boring
society all wearing the same clothes and driving the same color
automobiles without
individual expression and mental growth.
Many old cultures thought human sacrifice was the right way, and then we evolved
past that point of view and changed our culture. In the 21st century, humanity needs
to have another evolutionary jump into a world of freedom, working together for
a better quality of life for all. Modern Day religions need to evolve
too and embrace modern day societies and thinking. We must evolve
in the 21st century, it is the history of humanity and the natural
way to progress...Otherwise we might as well keep all our past
religious rules and cultural beliefs.
